“On our wedding day, my wife and I already had substantial debt; two student loans and credit cards that were used way too much during our time in school. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, during our first year of marriage through the financing of a new car, furniture, and a house, I began to wonder if we were getting in over our head. We were making ends meet with our professional salaries but in the back of my mind, I wondered what would happen if one of us lost our job. With nothing in savings and roughly $65,000 in unsecured debt, I don’t think we would have made it. Luckily, at about that time, Bill Anderson started to promote the “Financial Peace” program at our church. The program did a wonderful job of getting us to think about money and our relationship with it and with each other. But I would have to say, if it wasn’t for the personal coaching from Bill, the program would not have been near as effective. Bill leads through experience and a Godly heart that cannot be matched by a video or workbook. Bill not only teaches sound biblical financial principles, but he lives it as an example.
Now, after 6 years of marriage, my wife and I are debt free aside from our mortgage, of which we are paying extra on each month. We have an emergency fund just in case, and we are saving for retirement, not only in 401K’s but also in IRA’s.
One of our goals when we got married was to someday take a trip to Ireland and we not only went to Ireland but also to Germany, and we did it all debt free! A personal highlight of the trip for us was mailing a postcard to Bill from the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland thanking him for giving us the guidance to make this incredible trip possible.
On top of our Tithing, we also help fund missions and missionaries over seas. And through that we are truly blessed. Bill has been blessed with the gift of financial counseling and I thank God for his ability to share it.”
